| David Silverberg taught printmaking at Mount Alison University in New Brunswick for more than 30 years, and in 1995 became an Artist-in-Residence at Acadia University in Nova Scotia. Throughout that period he travelled extensively, exhibiting his work in more than 200 group and solo shows across Canada and the United States-and in China (in 1991-92), where he was invited by the Chinese government to travel, teach, and exhibit.
Silverberg's preferred medium is lithography. His subjects range widely and include nature, erotica, scenes from his travels, and themes reflecting his Judaism. His images are richly detailed, mixing elements of the fantastical into an underlying narrative realism. As well as printmaking, Silverberg has worked in batik, ceramics, photography, and set design.
Born in Montreal in 1936, Silverberg studied art as a boy with Arthur Lismer. After graduating from McGill University with a B.A., he studied printmaking techniques in France, at Paris and Grenoble. He was elected a member of the Royal Canadian Academy in 1984, and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, in London, in 1986.
David Silverberg now lives and works in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
